CURRENT RESIDENCIES
La Cuna residencies are hosted on a remote 16 acre property near the tiny town of Art, Texas in the rugged Texas Hill Country. As Phase 1 is under construction, we are offering our eco-glamping facility at no cost to creative professionals by invitation. The available space includes a screened hut with biogas toilet, small kitchen with biogas stove, sink, sofas with linens provided for sleeping, a passive cooling wall, solar generator for charging electronics, and unlimited access to the property and surroundings for inspiration.

FUTURE RESIDENCIES
Future plans include two comfortable, ensuite cabins and a large studio space to host residents for longer terms. Below is a list of Q&A's for future prospective residencies.

How are creatives selected?
Residents will be chosen by a committee comprised of La Cuna staff and/or board members and extended an invitation. We do not currently have an open call for applications.
Who does La Cuna invite?
We invite professionals working in a variety of disciplines from visual artists, architects, designers, culinary artists, scholars and more. We seek professionals whose current work or studies set them up to respond insightfully and creatively to our mission.
How long is the typical residency?
Residencies are discussed on an individual basis with staff and can range up to three months.
Is public presentation required as part of the residency?
The residency is both research-based and process-based with no requirement of completing works while in residence. However, we do ask the professional to document the work made during or after their stay which responds to their time here for inclusion in our digital archives. The resident can determine whether or not a public presentation will be conducted during their stay or on return at a later date. Our goal is to connect frequently with the local population, so we encourage open-studio days, lectures or other community presentations.
Are residents expected to cover travel and housing?
Housing and food is provided by La Cuna, but professionals must arrange and cover their own travel expenses. As funding allows, stipends may be available as well. A vehicle is highly recommended, especially for longer stays. We are very remote and any travel around the region will be at your own expense.
Does La Cuna provide supplies?
We can provide you with an inventory list of tools and items available for your use. Sometimes funding allows for the purchase of limited supplies if arranged beforehand.
What type of housing and studio are included?
Professionals will be housed in a private ensuite cabin with queen bed, linens, and views of the prairie. A separate, large private studio is included. They will also have access to our founder's 16.5 acres and shared facilities for laundry, outdoor kitchen, and outdoor lounging. We are fully off-grid with a focus on sustainable living practices, but our facilities are comfortable and (we think) beautiful. Meals are usually communal and primarily plant-based, but we aim to accommodate individual preferences and dietary needs to the best of our abilities.
Does the program accommodate family or pets?
The expectation is that our residents are working professionals putting in full work-days, but we are willing to discuss options for residents with partners who would like to join. We are frequently in need of volunteer work and would welcome the partner of a professional if they were available to contribute through some on-site work. Unfortunately, we do not have space available to accommodate children. Only service animals are allowed to accompany the professional.
What is there to do when not working?
While our property is very remote, there are many opportunities for tourist activities in our region. Outdoor activities abound with nearby rivers for fishing, state parks for hiking, and endless miles of gravel roads for cycling. The wine region nearby boasts over 250 wineries. Downtown Austin and San Antonio are each about 1:30 drive for day trips.
